Biographie

» […] Extrait du texte de Yann Chevalier, pour l'exposition Kamikaze 2089, Le Confort Moderne, Poitiers, 2004

Sophie Dejode and Bertrand Lacombe
Born in 1976 and 1974, live and work in Marseille and Annecy

“Our work represents a political corpus within the field of art. Initially, between 2000 and 2010, we developed Floating Land: a moveable territory offering Art alternative accommodations, then we gradually focused on formally disparaging the representation that we make for ourselves of human bodies comprising a machine, and a system. In this way we manage to slide the face of power from one scale to another, linking maquettes, sculptures, monuments, and fleeting events. Lastly, in the past few years, the bodies and the structural and dynamic issues that we have been involved with overlap artistic genres and make way for a monstrousness which inserts the matter of the autonomy of a system actually within the work.” S. D. & B. L.

“The referential world of Dejode and Lacombe is made up of video games and computers, B-movies and great films, science fiction and classical literature, art and skateboarding… Another manifestation of a cool Pop Art, an application, without invention, of the precepts of relational aesthetics? No, the relation proposed to the viewer is a trap and the park is much more perverse and cynical than what it lets people glimpse at first glance. What grabs the attention with them is their inexhaustible imagination and the way it is formed, combined with a formidable energy which makes everything possible, even moving mountains.” […] Excerpt from the essay by Yann Chevalier, for the exhibition Kamikaze 2089, Le Confort Moderne, Poitiers, 2004
