Carte blanche à La Station

Le Palais de Tokyo donne carte blanche à La Station et l’invite à investir le Module 1. A cette occasion, le collectif d’artistes propose une exposition réunissant neuf de ses membres et lance l’invitation à un artiste pour une première collaboration. Initiée à Nice en 1996, La Station offre une plateforme expérimentale au sein de laquelle les artistes émergents trouvent des conditions favorables pour initier des projets et participer au développement, de leurs activités. A l’origine installée dans les murs d’une ancienne station-service de Nice, La Station, s’est ensuite déplacée selon les réalités des lieux qui l’ont hébergée. C’est dans une volonté de proposer un maillon supplémentaire reliant au plus près les artistes, les lieux de diffusion et le public que La Station trouve sa pertinence, en tentant d’apporter une valeur ajoutée à un panorama culturel existant. La Carte Blanche proposée par le Palais de Tokyo se réalise à un moment clé de l’existence du collectif d’artistes. En effet, après avoir failli disparaître à plusieurs reprises au gré des démolitions des bâtiments qui l’ont abritée, la Station se trouve actuellement sans localisation ; en suspens avant une réimplantation durable dans les anciens abattoirs de la ville de Nice. Loin de fragiliser ses liens et sa raison d’être, cet état en suspension participe pleinement aux épisodes extra muros précédemment accomplis. A l’occasion du Module au Palais de Tokyo, La Station a choisi d’investir l’espace en proposant une oeuvre par artiste. Les pratiques de chacun restent autonomes et c’est au sein d’un projet et d‘un espace commun qu’elles prennent formes. ••• The Palais de Tokyo is giving carte blanche to La Station, inviting it to occupy the Module 1. For this event the artists’ collective is staging a collective exhibition bringing together nine of its members and issuing an invitation to an artist to collaborate with them for the first time. Started in 1996 in Nice, La Station offers an experimental platform within which up-and-coming artists can find conditions conducive to initiating projects and participating in the development of their activities. La Station was originally housed within the walls of a former service station in Nice, then moved on according to the realities of the places that sheltered it. The relevance of La Station lies in a desire to offer an extra link connecting artists, exhibition spaces and the public as closely as possibly, trying to give added value to the existing cultural panorama. The Carte Blanche proposed by the Palais de Tokyo is happening at a key moment in the existence of the artists’ collective. For after almost going under several times as a result of the demolition of the buildings that housed it, La Station is currently without any specific premises; in limbo before finding a long-term home in the former slaughterhouses of the city of Nice. Far from putting a strain on the links and the reason for being of such an undertaking by united artists, this suspended state is totally in keeping with the extramural episodes the group has previously been involved in. For the Module at the Palais de Tokyo, La Station has chosen to occupy the space by exhibiting one work per artist. The practices of each artist remain autonomous, and it is within a shared project and space that they take shape.
